What is the hourly rate?
We charge $165 per hour. This includes a one hour online coaching/consultation session with the SLP or OT.
Do you offer sessions as a pair (ie. Both therapists at the same time in the same session)?
We do! The cost of a session with both of us is $200 per hour. We can bill this session as half OT, half SLP for insurance purposes.
Do you provide sessions in person/at my home?
No. All sessions are completed virtually via Microsoft Teams. We will email you a secure link before each session.
Do you provide sessions with my child/does my child need to be there?
No. Each session is designed with you, the parent, as the primary client, helping you build the skills you need to best support your child.
Why do you offer parent coaching for parents of young children (ages 2–12) and not for teenagers or young adults?
Our parent coaching services are designed specifically for families with young children because this is such an important stage for building foundational skills and routines. Between the ages of 2 and 12, children are developing rapidly in areas like communication, emotional regulation, play, and independence—and parent involvement during this time has a powerful impact on growth and confidence. The strategies we use in coaching are tailored to the needs and developmental stages of younger children, where parents play a central role in daily learning and support. While we don’t provide parent coaching for teenagers or young adults, we’re happy to help connect families with services that are a better fit for those age groups.
Do you work with parents of children with disabilities?
Absolutely. With nearly four decades of combined experience, we’ve supported children and families with a wide range of needs, backgrounds, and diagnoses. Erin is also a parent of a neurodivergent child, which adds a deeply personal understanding to our work. We welcome all families — whether your child has a formal diagnosis, developmental differences, or you’re simply seeking support. Our approach is grounded in connection, respect, and meeting each child and family exactly where they are.
Do you bill my insurance?
We don’t offer direct billing, but once payment is received, we’ll provide you with a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Many extended health plans include coverage for speech and language services and/or occupational therapy services, so we encourage you to check with your provider to learn about your specific benefits.
Can I use my FSCD funding to access these services?
This is a question for your FSCD case manager. If you are interested in parent coaching as part of your specialized services or BDS contract, you can mention it to your case manager to see if this could be an option. If so, we can work together to build goals into your service plan.
What payment options do you accept?
We currently accept email money transfer for payment of services. The email address for payment will be provided on your invoice.
How often will we have sessions?
After your initial meeting with your SLP and OT team, we’ll work together to create a plan that best supports your needs. Sessions are typically scheduled weekly or every other week, but we can adjust the frequency to fit your schedule and goals.
What if I need to cancel a session?
No problem, we just ask that you give us at least 24 hours' notice.
How do we decide on goals for our coaching sessions?
Goal-setting in parent coaching is a collaborative process. Together, we’ll start by talking about what everyday routines or moments feel challenging—or what you’d most like to see change or improve for your child and family. Your therapist will help you identify what’s most meaningful and achievable right now, and together we will decide on goals that reflect your priorities. These goals are flexible and can evolve as your child grows or as your family’s needs change. The aim is to make sure every goal feels practical, relevant, and supportive of your child’s development and your family’s overall well-being.
Do you meet with clients from outside of Alberta?
Unfortunately, no. Currently, Erin and Megan are licensed to provide services in Alberta, for Alberta residents only. Erin is a registered member of The Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT), and Megan is registered with The Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA). Each province has their own registered colleges and regulation bodies, and a therapist must be a member of that college to practice in that province.
What is the difference between OT/SLP coaching and counselling or therapy?
Parent coaching in occupational or speech-language therapy focuses on supporting your child’s development and your family’s daily routines through practical strategies you can use at home. Your therapist works with you to understand your child’s needs and build stronger connections, routines, and confidence in everyday life. While we do talk about well-being and relationships—because these are key to helping children thrive—our focus is on using these as tools to support participation, learning, and growth. Counselling or therapy services (like psychology or family therapy), on the other hand, focus more directly on emotional health, mental well-being, and processing thoughts or feelings. In short, parent coaching helps you learn and apply strategies to support your child’s development, while counselling focuses on emotional and mental health support for you or your family.
How do I know if OT/SLP coaching is right for me and my family?
Parent coaching with an occupational therapist (OT) or speech-language pathologist (SLP) might be a great fit if you’re looking for practical support to help your child thrive in everyday life—whether that’s building routines, improving communication, fostering independence, or creating calmer, more connected family moments. Coaching is a collaborative process where you’ll learn strategies tailored to your child and family’s unique strengths and needs. If you’re unsure whether this approach is right for you, we offer a free meet and greet session. This is a relaxed opportunity to ask questions, share your goals, and see if our coaching style feels like a good fit for your family.
